Yarra Plastic Paddle - Yarra Riverkeeper Association
The Yarra Riverkeeper Association is a committed organisation working towards protecting and advocating for the Birrarung/Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia. Through advocacy, education, and on-the-ground initiatives, they strive to ensure the health and sustainability of this vital waterway.
In December 2021, the Yarra Riverkeeper Association launched the Yarra Plastic Paddle campaign. Our mission was clear: to raise awareness about plastic pollution in waterways while delivering a message that resonates with the community.
Campaign Highlights
Innovative Solution: With unwavering support from our dedicated team and volunteers, we crafted a plastic kayak using over 600 plastic bottles and bamboo.
Paddle for Impact: Embarking from Hawthorn Rowing Club and journeying to Flinders Station, participants showcased the environmental impact of plastic pollution and actively collected litter from the water and riverbanks.
Community Support: The Yarra Plastic Paddle received overwhelming support from organisations such as Ecosa, Regen Melbourne, Climbing Anchors, Up the Creek, Plastic Oceans, Open House Melbourne, FedSquare, and various local entities, highlighting the strength of community collaboration.
